Scout Report: Joel Piroe

If rumours are to be believed, then Swansea have agreed a deal worth £1m to sign 21-year-old Dutch forward Joel Piroe which is expected to be confirmed next week.

It is fantastic to see Swansea acting swiftly in the summer window ahead of what looks to be a difficult campaign, but who exactly is Joel Piroe?

Joel Piroe is a young 5ft 9 finisher who is probably best known for scoring an impressive hattrick for Netherlands U19s vs Germany U19s in the UEFA Under-19 Championship in a tournament which saw his side reach the semi-final back in 2017.

Piroe scored 3 goals in 12 appearances (mostly off the bench) for PSV last season with 2 of those goals coming in a 4-0 victory over Cypriot first division side AC Omonia in the group stage of the Europa League.

Whether or not Piroe can step-up to the quality of the Championship is unknown and many Swansea Supporters will be doubting whether will have what it takes to lead the attack during the 2021/22 season. The last player to join Swansea from PSV was Luciano Narsingh. Narsingh was a player who looked promising but was never truly given a long run in the team and didn't ever become comfortable adapting to the pressures of football in South Wales which was reflected by his meagre 2 goals return from 40 appearances in just over 2 seasons at the club.

However, just because our last PSV signing didn't hit the mark, Piroe will be believing he has what it takes to be successful for the Jack Army. He is deceptively strong and where Piroe lacks pace, he makes up for in his link up play and finishing ability.

If Piroe receives the service needed from the likes of Jamal Lowe and Jordon Garrick next season then there is no reason he can't become a hit at Swansea. Only time will tell...
